24 Aug AD talks to Hindware CMD, Sandip Somany, on the brand new experience centre in Delhi
Hindware, the brand behind India’s most iconic bathware, opens its doors to a new era of design, wellness, and experiential retail.
When Hindware unveiled its revamped experience centre in Delhi, with Bollywood star Tamannaah Bhatia inaugurating and the city’s design community gathering in full force, it marked more than a retail refresh. Set in Lajpat Nagar, the new space redefines how consumers experience the brand.
Spread across immersive zones where visitors can explore Hindware’s complete portfolio, from the premium Queo and Hindware Italian Collection to appliances, sanitaryware, faucets, tiles , wellness solutions, and shower enclosures. Expert-led consultations guide visitors through design possibilities, ensuring every decision is both informed and creative.
As Hindware enters its next chapter, with its new brand philosophy, ‘ Designed for Sukoon ‘, AD India speaks to the company’s leadership on legacy, innovation, and the evolving language of Indian bathrooms.
1. From its early days in the 1960s to today, Hindware has witnessed India’s design evolution firsthand. Looking back, which moments or turning points stand out as the most defining for you personally?
“The journey has been dramatic,” says Sandip Somany, Chairman & Managing Director, reflecting on how bathrooms once existed as small, functional spaces outside the home. “Today they’re extensions of living rooms —spaces to express beauty, creativity, and identity.”
Over 60 years, Hindware has responded to cultural shifts in aspirations, lifestyles, and living standards. Some turning points include India’s transition towards modern materials, its growing attention to glamour, and a consumer who increasingly values design-led everyday experiences.
“We’ve always believed in forecasting change,” he adds. “Understanding where society is moving—and innovating before the need becomes conventional—has defined us.”
2. Bathrooms have evolved from purely functional spaces to experiential ones. Do you think global trends have reshaped Indian aesthetics, or is there now a stronger move towards homegrown, context-driven design thinking?
As lifestyles evolve, bathrooms are transforming into spaces of wellness, sensory comfort, and personal expression. But behind the beauty sits a deep technical shift.
“We’ve consistently led functional innovation,” he shares. Hindware was among the first to introduce water-saving solutions—6-litre flushes, dual-flush systems, and urinals that use just 250 ml instead of 10 litres. Today, the focus has expanded to massaging showers, integrated lighting, aromatherapy, advanced deodorisation, and automatic cleansing systems.
This interplay of aesthetics and engineering is best reflected in their new lineup—from thermostatic diverters to multi-spray shower systems that maintain temperature precisely, to smart hygiene toilets.
“It’s a competition of ceramics and electronics,” he says with a smile. “And we embrace both.”
3. While many brands speak the language of tech and luxury, Hindware chose Sukhoon —a word that evokes serenity. What does this reveal about your understanding of today’s consumer mindset?
For them, Sukoon is not a campaign tagline; it is a design philosophy. It guides how products are built, how innovation is approached, and how the brand imagines today’s homes.
Actor Tamannaah Bhatia, who unveiled the experience centre, echoed this during her visit: “I was excited to see how the brand makes premium design accessible and practical for everyone, across all age groups. It’s a space that sparks creativity while ensuring every choice feels effortless and reassuring, truly reflecting Hindware’s promise of Sukoon.”
“This campaign is a celebration of everything Hindware stands for—blending design , technology, and emotion to transform every home into a sanctuary of peace and comfort.” as Mr. Shashvat Somany, Head of Strategy, Somany Impresa Group and Non-Executive Non‑Independent Director at Hindware, reflects.
Whether it’s a thermostat shower that mimics monsoon rain or a warm-seat smart WC that feels like a winter blanket, Sukoon is Hindware’s answer to what a modern sanctuary should feel like.
4. The new Hindware Experience Centre in Delhi transforms retail into a journey of discovery. What inspired this reimagination, and how do you envision it redefining the experience of architects, designers, and homeowners with the brand?
“The range has expanded massively. We needed an environment that could showcase everything in its truest form,” says Somany.
Every model—from showers to smart toilets—works in real time. Visitors can turn faucets, test spray modes, experience tiles under different lighting, and explore appliances designed for efficiency.
Unlike traditional retail formats, we wanted the users to truly understand the product in the right space. This centre eliminates dealer-driven preferences and offers people the chance to experience it themselves. Moreover, it’s a space for meaningful conversations, guided by specialists who help customers discover what’s possible.
Mr. Nirupam Sahay, President & CEO, Bath & Tiles Business at Hindware, expands on this vision, noting that the experience centre is a natural extension of the brand’s Designed for Sukoon philosophy. “We wanted to create a calm and confident journey through every step of bathroom planning,” he says.
As Hindware expands across India—with 35,000 retail touchpoints, 575+ brand stores, and a robust service network—this Delhi flagship becomes the blueprint for a consistent, high-quality experience.
“Through Hindware Designed for Sukoon, we are honouring our brand’s legacy of trust and deep emotional connection with our consumers, while speaking to today’s consumers with fresh emotional storytelling,” Ms. Arunima Yadav, Head of Marketing at Hindware adds.
5. Looking ahead, what’s your vision for Hindware as it enters its next chapter—a legacy brand continuing to innovate in design, technology, and sustainability for the homes of tomorrow?
Automation, sustainability, and wellness are at the heart of what the brand sees next.
From WCs that flush automatically to self-cleaning basins (a category where Hindware is the first mover), the future is intuitive and hands-free. Thermostatic safety, water conservation, and high-performance materials continue to guide R&D.

A New Chapter for a Legacy Brand
Bringing the vision to life, Ram Cobain, CCO, Mullen Lintas, shared, “Technology can often feel cold. But done right, it can be warm and human. ‘Sukoon’ is an onomatopoeic word—it sounds like what it describes. This transcendental feeling of knowing that all is right with the world is our creative soul.
With a refreshed experience centre, a resonant philosophy in Designed for Sukoon, and a future shaped by smart innovation, Hindware is writing the next chapter of India’s bathware story, defined by calm, care, and thoughtful design.
